Three Little Lights From My Day

Sometimes the loveliest parts of a day are the ones we almost forget to notice.

Three Little Lights From My Day is a simple family gratitude activity for remembering something that made us smile, someone we're thankful for, and something we're grateful for—before thinking of one little light we might give to someone else.

And grown-ups can join in too.

Three Little Lights From My Day printable with Haki the hyena and four writing spaces for something that made me smile, someone I'm thankful for, something I'm grateful for and a light I can give

For grown-ups

Gratitude doesn't need to become another thing we ask children to perform.

Instead of searching for the “best” answer, simply get curious together.

Try asking:

“Was there anything good today that we nearly didn't notice?”

Then answer the questions yourself too.

Your little light might be a phone call from a friend, a quiet cup of tea, somebody making you laugh—or simply getting everyone through the day.

There are no impressive answers required.

A little idea

Try this at the end of the day.

Your child can draw or write their answers while you share yours aloud. You don't even need to complete the printable every time.

Eventually Three Little Lights can become a simple family question:

“What were your little lights today?”

The printable has then done something more valuable than being completed—it has helped create a small family ritual.

The story behind the activity

Haki: The Greedy Hyena and The Full Moon

Haki's story explores wanting more and discovering the value of appreciating what we already have.

Three Little Lights From My Day carries that idea beyond the story and into ordinary family life—not by telling children they should be grateful, but by helping everyone practise noticing together.
