My Brave Little Steps
Sometimes something feels too big because we're looking at the whole thing at once.
My Brave Little Steps helps children choose something they'd like to try and break it into smaller steps that feel more possible—with space for someone they trust to walk beside them.
Being brave doesn't have to mean doing everything today.

For grown-ups
When we can see that a child is capable of something, it's tempting to encourage them toward the finish line.
But from where the child is standing, the first step may already feel enormous.
Try asking:
“Which step feels possible today?”
rather than:
“Which step are you going to do?”
A smaller step still counts. And sometimes “We'll try again another day” is a perfectly good place to stop.
A little idea
Let your child choose the challenge.
It might be sleeping in their own room, joining a new activity, trying the potty, going somewhere unfamiliar, speaking to someone new—or something completely different.
Then make the first step really small.
Instead of “Go and join the other children,” perhaps the first step is simply:
“Let's watch them together for a little while.”
The printable gives children three stars to colour as they try their little steps—not only when they reach the final goal.
