What Helps Me When I Feel…?
Big feelings don't always come with easy answers.
This gentle activity helps children explore something just as important as naming a feeling: what might help when that feeling arrives.
Together, you can talk about different possibilities, circle or tick the ideas that feel helpful, and add your own.

For grown-ups
Different children need different things when feelings become big. One child may want a cuddle. Another may need quiet. Another might want to move, draw or talk.
There doesn't have to be one correct response.
Try asking:
“Would you like me to help, stay close, or give you a little space?”
Over time, your child can begin discovering what helps them.
A little idea
Keep the printable somewhere easy to reach.
When everyone is calm, look through it together. Your child might circle, tick or colour the ideas they think could help.
Then when a big feeling arrives, instead of asking lots of questions, you already have some possibilities to come back to together.
